What to eat

mount kilimanjaro meal

We have the best cooks in town who are waiting to cook your meal during the whole climbing days. In case if you have an allergy or any special dietary requirements please specify it in the process of booking or after booking and not during climbing because normally we are using nuts and meat to prepare your course. Our skilled cooks will help you to prepare your nutritious and tasty food no matter you are a vegetarian, vegans or have a certain food allergy they can accommodate you.

Our breakfast will contain porridge, a saveloy, bread with honey, jam or peanut butter, boiled or fried eggs, cups of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and a slice of fruit maybe orange or banana and other things depending on your weight and health condition.

Lunch is prepared during breakfast time and packed on lunchbox to be with you or your guide because we cannot prepare it sideways the trail during climbing. We will have sandwiches, boiled eggs, fruit (banana or orange), and tea in a flask carried by the guide. You will have also afternoon tea with milk or supper with popcorns, peanuts, and biscuits.

Your dinner will be heavy food starting soup and later on, you will have your main course including rice or pasta, chicken or meat, potatoes, vegetable source and other things depending on your weight and health condition.

Just remember caffeine is dehydrating, which is bad for acclimatization. You will need to urinate repeatedly; do not worry you may be doing it a lot as you adapt to the higher conditions.

You will have purified water when you begin your climb. On our way to the summit, our guide, cook or porter will help you to collect water from the waterway along the trail. Every day, our cook will boil some water for you to carry in your water bottles. You can collect yourself from the stream and purifying it using tablets or filter, not to worry they are clean and freshwater.

The higher that we climb the water becomes more scarce. You will need to carry enough water not less than two litres, for example, the last water point on the Machame route is Karanga Valley and the lunch on Marangu before Barafu it is just before the Saddle.
